Self-Confidence Through God – His Calling for Us

Self-Confidence Through God – His Calling for Us

Good morning, brothers and sisters in Christ! Today, we’re going to explore a powerful truth: God calls us to live with confidence—not a confidence rooted in our own abilities or circumstances, but a bold, unshakable confidence that comes from trusting in Him. The world often tells us to “believe in ourselves,” but Scripture reveals something deeper: our strength, identity, and assurance come from the One who created us. Let’s dive into God’s Word to see how He invites us into this divine confidence.

1. Confidence Begins with Knowing Who We Are in God

The foundation of self-confidence through God starts with understanding our identity in Him. In Genesis 1:27, we read, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” You are not an accident. You bear the image of the Almighty! This truth alone should stir confidence in us—not arrogance, but a humble assurance that we are valuable because God made us.

The Apostle Paul echoes this in Ephesians 2:10, saying, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” You’re not just created; you’re crafted with purpose. When we doubt ourselves, we’re not just questioning our abilities—we’re questioning the One who designed us. God calls us to step into confidence by embracing who He says we are.

2. Confidence Grows Through Trust in God’s Strength

Now, let’s be honest: life throws challenges our way that shake our confidence. We face failures, fears, and uncertainties. But God doesn’t leave us to rely on our own power. In Philippians 4:13, Paul declares, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Notice he doesn’t say, “I can do all this because I’m talented or strong.” No—his confidence flows from Christ.

Look at David facing Goliath in 1 Samuel 17:45. He says to the giant, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty.” David’s confidence wasn’t in his slingshot skills; it was in the God who empowered him. God calls us to this same trust. When we lean on His strength, we can face any giant with boldness.

3. Confidence is Strengthened by God’s Promises

God doesn’t just give us strength; He gives us promises to anchor our confidence. In Joshua 1:9, as Joshua steps into leadership, God commands, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” That’s not a suggestion—it’s a divine call! God ties our confidence to His presence.

Isaiah 41:10 adds, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” When we feel weak or unworthy, God says, “I’ve got you.” Our confidence isn’t in our perfection but in His faithfulness. Romans 8:31 drives this home: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” With God on our side, we can stand tall.

4. Confidence is Expressed Through Action

Biblical confidence isn’t passive—it’s active. James 2:17 reminds us, “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” God calls us to live out our trust in Him. Think of Esther. In Esther 4:16, she says, “I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.” Her confidence in God’s plan gave her the courage to act, and through her, God saved His people.

Peter walking on water in Matthew 14:29 is another example. He stepped out of the boat because he trusted Jesus’ call. Yes, he faltered when he focused on the waves, but his initial confidence in Christ moved him to do the impossible. God calls us to step out too—to serve, to love, to share our faith—with confidence in Him.

5. Confidence Overcomes the World’s Lies

The enemy wants us to feel worthless and insecure. But 1 John 4:4 declares, “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” Satan whispers, “You’re not enough,” but God shouts, “I am enough for you.” In 2 Corinthians 3:5, Paul says, “Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.” Our confidence silences the world’s lies when we root it in His truth.

Conclusion: Answering the Call

So, what is God calling us to? He’s calling us to a self-confidence that isn’t self-centered but God-centered. It’s a confidence that says, “I am who God says I am. I can do what God says I can do. And I will go where God leads me.” Hebrews 10:35-36 urges us, “So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”

Today, let’s answer that call. Stop shrinking back in fear or doubt. Stand firm in the One who made you, strengthens you, and promises to never leave you. Pray with me: “Lord, fill us with Your confidence. Help us trust You, lean on Your strength, and walk boldly in Your purpose. Amen.”

This sermon weaves together key Scriptures—Genesis 1:27, Ephesians 2:10, Philippians 4:13, 1 Samuel 17:45, Joshua 1:9, Isaiah 41:10, Romans 8:31, James 2:17, Esther 4:16, Matthew 14:29, 1 John 4:4, 2 Corinthians 3:5, and Hebrews 10:35-36—to show how God calls us to confidence through faith in Him. May it inspire and uplift!
