Liz Cheney Responds to President Trump’s Comments on Jailing J6 Committee Members for Perpetrating a Fraud on the American Public Even Though She Has Already Admitted To Felony Crimes

Updated: Dec 9, 2024

In response to President Donald Trump's comments suggesting that everyone on the January 6 Committee should be jailed for what he claims was perpetrating a fraud on the American public, Liz Cheney has publicly countered these accusations. Trump made these remarks during his first post-election interview with NBC, where he discussed his perspective on the actions of the committee members.

Cheney, who served as the vice chair of the January 6 Committee, responded by asserting that Trump's suggestion to jail members of Congress who investigated his actions is "a continuation of his assault on the rule of law and the foundations of our Republic." She emphasized the committee's findings, which included Trump's attempts to overturn the 2020 election results and his role in mobilizing the crowd on January 6, 2021, leading to the attack on the Capitol. Cheney also highlighted the violence against police officers and the disruption of the electoral vote count, directly linking these events to Trump's actions and rhetoric.

This exchange occurs within a broader context where Trump has criticized the committee's work, alleging it suppressed evidence and engaged in a politically motivated investigation. Meanwhile, reports suggest that President Joe Biden is considering preemptive pardons for committee members, indicating concerns about potential retaliatory actions from Trump's administration.

The discourse around these events continues to be contentious, with both sides presenting their narratives. Trump's assertions of fraud and his call for jailing committee members are seen by critics as an attack on the democratic process and legal accountability, while his supporters view it as an attempt to expose what they believe was a biased investigation against him.

The simple truth is that there are laws that govern the actions taken by the J6 Committee.  Those laws were broken and human rights were violated or they weren’t.  Being that the J6 Committee chose to destroy evidence, violating the laws that govern the committee, it is a reasonable assertion that the committee members are indeed criminals.
