MultiVersus

MultiVersus, the free-to-play crossover fighting game launched in 2024, is set to permanently shut down. Player First Games announced in January that MultiVersus Season 5 would be its final season, confirming the game's closure at 5pm PDT (12 noon EDT) on May 30, 2025. This decision follows Warner Bros. Discovery's report of substantial financial losses attributed to the game's underperformance. In November 2024, the company acknowledged that MultiVersus fell significantly short of expectations, leading to a $100 million write-down in its games division. This contributed to a total loss of $300 million, compounded by the unsuccessful launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in January.

In a discussion thread titled "Tomorrow MultiVersus shuts down, what are the final things you have to say about the game," numerous players shared their reflections and memorable experiences. One player remarked, "MultiVersus was a platform fighter emphasizing quick offensive gameplay and 2v2 team synergy. The casting was exceptional, featuring voice actors reprising their roles, such as the late Kevin Conroy as Batman, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, Kate Micucci as Velma, John DiMaggio as Jake, and Eric Bauza as Bugs and Marvin."

Despite some perplexing roster choices and move decisions, players generally appreciated the creativity and inspiration behind most move sets. Another player nostalgically recalled their experience during the beta phase in 2022, expressing hopes for a future revival.

Additionally, comments highlighted the unique appeal of characters like Tom and Jerry, which reignited players' enthusiasm for fighting games. While some remain optimistic, the consensus acknowledges the significant challenges involved in reviving the game due to complex intellectual property issues. Nevertheless, efforts to preserve the game's legacy continue as the servers prepare to go offline.

Stellar Blade

Publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer SHIFT UP have announced the release of a demo for the PC version of Stellar Blade via Steam. In this demo, players embark on a journey as EVE, a warrior from the 7th Airborne Squad, tasked with saving humankind. The demo features action-packed combat and stylish visuals, allowing players to unleash powerful attack combos as they experience the first stage of SHIFT UP's action-adventure game designed to reclaim Earth from the Naytiba—a malevolent force that has devastated the planet.

Stellar Blade, originally acclaimed on PlayStation 5 and developed by Korean developers SHIFT UP, is now optimized for PC. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the future of humanity hangs in the balance. Earth has been abandoned due to strange and powerful creatures, resulting in the remaining human population fleeing to a Colony in outer space. EVE arrives from the Colony to the desolate remains of our planet with a mission to save humankind by reclaiming Earth from the Naytiba. Throughout her journey, EVE confronts the Naytiba and uncovers the mysteries of the past within the ruins of human civilization, realizing that her mission is far more complex than initially anticipated.

The official trailer for PC version of Stellar Blade can be viewed at this link.
