Marco Rubio’s Triumph for Trump on His Historic Trip to Panama

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has achieved a significant victory for President Trump during his first overseas trip to Panama, reinforcing America’s interests and standing on the global stage.

In a pivotal meeting with Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino and Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha, Rubio clearly articulated the Trump administration’s stance regarding the Panama Canal. He underscored a pressing concern: the Chinese Communist Party’s growing influence in the canal region poses a direct threat to American security and interests.

Rubio emphasized that President Trump has made it clear this situation is untenable. The Chinese presence in the area contravenes the 1977 treaty between the U.S. and Panama, which guaranteed the canal's neutrality. “The current status quo is unacceptable,” Rubio stated. “Without immediate changes, the U.S. will be compelled to take necessary actions to protect its rights under the Treaty,” as noted by spokesperson Tammy Bruce.

Following these discussions, President Mulino indicated he would reconsider Panama’s participation in China's Silk Road initiative, signaling a willingness to reevaluate relationships that could undermine U.S. interests. “I believe that this visit opens a new chapter in our relations,” Mulino remarked, expressing hope for increased American investment in Panama.

Since taking office, President Trump has been vigilant about Panama’s adherence to its commitments, highlighting concerns that the country has profited excessively at America's expense through high toll fees.

When asked about the potential for military action to safeguard U.S. interests in the canal, Trump left the door open. “The Panama Canal was built for our military,” he asserted, stressing its strategic importance. “I’m not ruling anything out.”

This trip by Secretary Rubio not only strengthens U.S.-Panama relations but also sends a powerful message: America under Trump will not shy away from protecting its vital interests. The era of American leadership is back, and we are committed to ensuring that the Panama Canal remains under responsible governance that aligns with our values and security.
