Colorado’s Pro-Trans Police and Anti-Parent Agenda: A Disgraceful Betrayal of Families

Published: April 10, 2025

In a state that once prided itself on rugged individualism and personal freedom, Colorado has descended into a dystopian nightmare where parental rights are trampled underfoot, and a radical pro-trans agenda reigns supreme. The latest outrage—a case where an LGBTQ activist teacher and her so-called “trans husband” have taken in a minor student against the explicit wishes of the child’s parents—exposes the depths of this madness. And the cherry on top? The police, those supposed guardians of law and order, shrugged their shoulders and claimed there was “nothing they could do.” What the hell is going on in Colorado’s schools, and why are parents being sidelined in favor of ideological zealots?

Let’s break this down. JoAnn Smotherman, a former math teacher at Durango High School with a history of pushing her activist agenda, and her “trans-identifying” husband, Vivian Smotherman—a failed Democratic candidate for the Colorado State Senate—decided they were above the law and basic decency. They took in a 17-year-old girl, a student of JoAnn’s, who identifies as a boy, after she left home following a fight with her mother, Cynthia Stein. Stein, desperate to reclaim her daughter, went to the Smothermans’ home, only to be rebuffed. She called the police for help, and what did they do? Nothing. According to body cam footage and the police report, the officers refused to intervene, citing the teen’s age and proximity to 18 as some flimsy excuse. Never mind that this girl was still a minor under her mother’s legal guardianship—apparently, in Colorado, parental authority means squat when it clashes with the sacred trans agenda.

This isn’t just a one-off horror story; it’s a symptom of a broader, insidious trend. Colorado’s schools and law enforcement have become playgrounds for progressive ideologues who prioritize gender identity over family integrity. The Smothermans didn’t just stumble into this situation—they’re activists with a track record. Vivian, a trans-identifying man, campaigned on a platform dripping with identity politics, while JoAnn, as a teacher, had direct access to vulnerable students. The teen in question, diagnosed with autism, was one of JoAnn’s own students—raising serious questions about grooming and exploitation. Yet, the police, bound by what seems like a pro-trans directive, stood idly by as a mother’s rights were shredded.

What’s happening in Colorado’s schools is nothing short of a scandal. Teachers like JoAnn Smotherman aren’t just educators—they’re evangelists for a radical ideology that seeks to sever the parent-child bond.

The state’s permissive environment has emboldened these activists to act as if they’re untouchable, housing minors without parental consent and hiding behind a warped interpretation of “supporting” trans youth. And the police? Their refusal to act isn’t incompetence—it’s complicity. They’ve been neutered by a system that bends over backwards to appease the trans lobby, leaving parents like Cynthia Stein powerless and heartbroken. This isn’t protection; it’s a betrayal of every family in the state.

The implications are chilling. If a teacher and her spouse can harbor a minor against a parent’s wishes, and the police won’t lift a finger, what’s next? Are we to believe that any activist with a rainbow flag can swoop in and claim custody of a child, so long as the kid mutters something about gender identity? Colorado’s anti-parent agenda has reached a tipping point, where the state effectively endorses the abduction of children under the guise of “affirmation.” Meanwhile, parents are painted as villains for daring to assert their rights—rights that should be sacrosanct in any sane society.

Let’s not mince words: this is a war on families, waged by a pro-trans police force and a school system that’s lost its damn mind. The Smothermans’ actions aren’t heroic—they’re predatory. The police’s inaction isn’t neutrality—it’s cowardice. And Colorado’s leaders, from Governor Jared Polis on down, have blood on their hands for letting this fester. Parents deserve better. Kids deserve better. It’s time to rip this anti-parent, pro-trans insanity out by the roots before more families are torn apart. Wake up, Colorado—your schools are a battleground, and you’re losing.
